The videos to be posted these next few days will be centered around the theme “Moving Forward”- something the Philippines has been doing since the beginning of their history. Each will be a mini history lesson about our country, showing how the people of the Philippines made it past their struggles and continue to do so today. As Filipinos in America, it is very important that we are aware of history in order to know what has been done in the past and decide what can be done today. Although each individual has their own path to follow, these are the stories that unite us as a nation. This video series was a huge learning experience for me. I knew little to nothing about Filipino history prior to creating this project, but over the past month my pride for my culture grew after learning what others have done in order for me
and my family to get to this point. As time goes on, I find it super important that the FilAm community acknowledges the shoulders we stood on in order to get here, as well as our own identities as the future of the Philippines. Regardless of whether or not we have been in the country, or even if you are Filipino, we must fight for the country and culture today. Creating the future begins with knowing the past.
