them for a few days at most, it felt like we had known them forever. As someone who grew up in the US, it's easy to not feel connected to our heritage and our people. I honestly believed that our culture was just chicken adobo, pancit, and karaoke. Things that were accepted by and entertained the people around us. It was not until the mission trip that I really internalized that our culture is more than just those things. The communities who wholeheartedly accepted us showed me that our culture is full of resistance and love. We resist the systems that oppress us because we love each other enough to fight for each other.
Sharlynne is currently apart of Kabataan Alliance and graduated from Portland State University in 2017 with a degree in general studies, pre-pharmacy focus.
